How To Install Skype On Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) ?

Skype is software that enables the world's conversations.Millions of individuals and businesses use Skype to make free video and voice calls, send instant messages and share files with other Skype users.Everyday, people also use Skype to make low-cost calls to landlines and mobiles.

In this tutorial i will give you a background about Skype installation on Ubuntu 11.04 just follow the instructions below with screenshots.

Go to Skype official website to download suitable version for Ubuntu 11.04, on the main page press on get skype and choose linux from pop up window.


It will give you Skype 2.2 Beta for linux Press on download now button and choose Ubuntu 10.4+ 32-bit or 64-bit according to your system.


Save the file to your computer.


Open the downloaded file with Ubuntu Software Center , you will find Skype ready to get installed , Click on install to install it ,then type the password to authenticate .


Another way to install Skype on Ubuntu 11.04 by respiratory :

To install Skype on Ubuntu 11.04 already (currently Alpha 3), you can download the Skype .deb from the Skype website, but it's better to install Skype from the Ubuntu 10.10 Partner repository because it includes some Ubuntu-specific fixes that aren't available in the official Skype .deb.

To add the Ubuntu 10.10 Partner repository to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal, press ALT + F2 and to open terminal ,and enter the following command:


It will open Software Sources .
Then, on the "Other software" tab click "Add" and add the following:
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu maverick partner.
Then when u close software sources a small window will appear to tell you that the information about available software is out-of-date , press Reload button .
And finally goto software center and search for skype or run the following command in terminal to install skype .
